{"id":56061,"date":"2025-03-29T14:05:37","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T05:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kmma.jp\/?page_id=56061"},"modified":"2025-04-04T13:04:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-04T04:04:42","slug":"curator-director","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kmma.jp\/en\/curator-director\/","title":{"rendered":"Message from the Director"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art is<span>1974<\/span>Counting from the opening of the museum in 1949<span>51<\/span>We are now in our second year.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000Kitakyushu City is located in<span>1963 <\/span>Year,<span>5 <\/span>The city was created through the equal merger of Moji, Kokura, Wakamatsu, Yawata, and Tobata cities, making it the first city outside the Tokyo-Meihan metropolitan area and the first city in the Kyushu region to be designated as an ordinance-designated city. With the birth of the new city, this museum was planned to play a role in the promotion of art and culture in the city and to serve as a place of relaxation for the citizens. It is the first large-scale public art museum in western Japan, and was designed by architect Arata Isozaki,<span>2 <\/span>The unique appearance of the two tubes looming forward has made it popular with citizens for half a century as the \"binoculars on the hill.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000Since its opening, the museum has planned and held numerous exhibitions, introduced diverse art forms from around the world, and conducted educational activities through art. We have also collected, preserved, and exhibited works of art that should be preserved for the future, and conducted activities to deepen research. The museum's collection, which began before the opening of the museum, now consists of approximately<span>8,000 <\/span>The collection includes three works of art.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000Half a century has passed since the museum opened, and the circumstances surrounding Kitakyushu City have changed, and the role of the museum as required by society has also changed. We would like to continue to meet the needs of the new era while building on our accumulated experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000Here is a new<span>50 <\/span>As we begin the new year, we would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to all the citizens who have given us their warm support, to the donors of artworks and art volunteers, and to all those who have visited our museum since its opening.
