Minutes (Summary)
- secretariat
- (Explanation of today's handouts and agenda, confirmation of audience)
(Explanation of agenda items 1-3) - chairman
- If you have any comments or questions about the explanation just given, please let me know.
- chairman
- The former 5-year plan was implemented from 2010 to 2014, and a 3-year plan was developed and evaluated from 2015 to 2017 for renewal. This time, how should the five-year plan from 2008 to 2014 be considered?
- secretariat
- Prepare a five-year plan based on the past state of the museum.
- chairman
- What has changed?
- secretariat
- Newly added was "5. Environment. Education and Dissemination and Citizen Involvement/Community Interaction were combined into "3. Interaction".
- chairman
- So the word is new, but it corresponds to the previous one. Does the "environment" include not only facilities but also improved amenities? What is the intention of the mayor's department?
- secretariat
- We have discussed the basic policy with the Agency and the specific items are to be discussed at the museum.
- committee member
- 3. What do you mean by "self-supporting volunteer system" in the "3. Interaction" Volunteer Organization Enhancement? What exactly do you mean by reviewing the questionnaire?
- secretariat
- Self-supporting type is one in which volunteers themselves plan and carry out projects, or one in which volunteers are asked to show one way of thinking in support of the museum. In keeping with the museum's tradition of creating Japan's first volunteer organization, we would like to explore a new form that takes a step further. We would like to explore a new form that goes one step further, while building on the museum's tradition of having Japan's first volunteer organization.
- secretariat
- Currently, the survey collection rate is very poor. We are considering an exit survey, although this is not a decision.
- committee member
- Regarding surveys, it is important to consider not only the quantity to be taken, but also what to find out and the best method to do so.
There is a disconnect between the museum and its users. If we can create opportunities for people to voice their opinions through public commentary and other means, and if we can create indicators that show that museums are willing to change, I believe that this would be a very good way to manage museums. - committee member
- If there is data that the museum would like to collect, a marketing survey could be conducted on weekdays and weekends for each day of a busy exhibition, and various data could be obtained by cross-tabulating the data by attribute, place of residence, and so on.
It might be interesting to do it in front of Kokura station.
Recently, the influence of mass media, newspapers and television, has been declining. How to notify people about things is a matter of life and death. Market research is important to find out how people are aware of the product and where it is not reaching. - chairman
- I think the survey depends on how you do it, your objectives, and how serious you are about it.
- committee member
- It's rude to say it's an added bonus, but at a stroke, the survey collection rate goes up. They write down names and addresses.
- committee member
- I once did a survey of people who had never been to a museum before and found many surprising opinions and things that were not visible in the field.
- committee member
- In our city with an aging population, it is very important to utilize an accessible branch library rather than the main library, which is very inaccessible.
- chairman
- In relation to the tourism policy, we need to ask tours coming from China to include the museum. And, moreover, we should make leaflets not only in English, but also in Chinese and Korean.
- committee member
- With the current staff and organizational structure, it would be difficult to respond to the survey, if at all.
Shouldn't the five-year plan also include a section on the need to improve internal management?
I think it would be a good idea to support where the museum council can support. - vice president (of a club or organization, organisation)
- It would be good to have more independent projects at the branch libraries.
Since the number of Asian foreigners is increasing, we need to do this properly. In doing so, cooperation with other museums is also important.
Also, there is a section on the maintenance of an archive on the artists in the collection, and the maintenance and public access to the book database. - secretariat
- Regarding public access, we must separate what can and cannot be made available to the public.
Archives are the cornerstone of the collection exhibition, so we would like to take action as soon as possible, for example, by interviewing the artists who own the collection. - vice president (of a club or organization, organisation)
- By archival maintenance, do you mean that you try to collect materials of artists related to our museum?
- secretariat
- It is a conscious effort to do so.
We have an aging population of writers. - vice president (of a club or organization, organisation)
- Rather than "maintenance of the archives," I think it would be better to use a term that would express a more conscious attitude of collecting as a museum.
- committee member
- The study program in cooperation with schools has only been numerical targets so far, but it would be good to include something like the satisfaction level of participating schools. The museum tour will be conducted, and it would be good if the content of the tour makes children want to come back one more time.
- secretariat
- As a result of this year's event, children are very opinionated. Many of them came back to the museum. The teachers were also surprised. I think it has had a great effect in changing the stiff image of the museum.
- committee member
- I think it is a really good thing that all children from different backgrounds come to the museum at least once.
The graduation exhibition of my school is usually held at the Annex, but this year it was held at the Kurosaki Civic Gallery because it was closed. The visitors, who were usually limited to parents, relatives, and friends, included many people who were not interested in art, such as elderly people visiting the ward office and people visiting the hospital. We felt that we could make use of the fact that people who do not usually visit the museum came to the gallery. - committee member
- It is not only a problem for museums, but the city is getting smaller as the birthrate declines and the population ages.
Like a smart city, if we don't focus, we won't be able to provide services. Museums also need to think about "keeping this" in the context of limited budgets. - committee member
- 4. In the item "Cooperation with Other Organizations" in the public relations section, there is a reference to the utilization of the TNM and the enhancement of the TNM museum store in the environment section (5), but there is talk about how the TNM can be involved in the management of the museum. How can it be utilized? We need to think more concretely.
- chairman
- May I now approve the agenda as proposed by the secretariat?
- ≪ Commissioner.
- No objection.
- chairman
- This concludes the 2nd Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art Council Meeting for FY 2009.
