Exhibitions & Events

Ukraine is located north of the Black Sea, with a population of 41.59 million (National Statistics Service of Ukraine in 2021: Ministry of Foreign Affairs HP) and an area of about 600,000㎢ (about 1.6 times the size of Japan: Ministry of Foreign Affairs HP).
Half of the country is a plain, where wheat and other crops are cultivated, and it was once called "the breadbasket of Europe. Two years after the invasion of Ukraine, with no end in sight, about 130 paintings by Ukrainian children wishing for peace and safety for their families will be exhibited.
In this exhibition, we would like to share with you the thoughts and feelings that the children would like to deliver to the soldiers on the battlefield through their paintings. The paintings were created by children between the ages of 9 and 14 who attended four elementary and junior high schools in western Ukraine. Some of the paintings are portraits of families with innocent smiles on their faces, while others are filled with negative emotions about the war. The children's daily anxieties and their desire for peace speak to us in color and line from the depths of these pure paintings.

<Highlights of this exhibition
As their peaceful daily lives are being destroyed, children are trying to communicate through various expressions. Some drawings depict the destruction of cities and daily life, while others are based on their imagination of a peaceful world. Although each child's expression differs, we hope that war will end and a peaceful world will be created.
Approximately 130 paintings will be exhibited in two zones: the "WAR (War) Zone," which conveys information about the current situation, and the "HOPE (Hope) Zone," which depicts an imagined world of peace.
