Katsushika Hokusai lived to the age of 90 as a genius painter in the Edo period. He never drank or smoked and devoted his life to painting, and in his later years he called himself a "painting mad old man.

Gexivision" vol. 3, a collaborative project between theater and art, tells the story of an elderly manga artist living in the modern age. He looks up to Hokusai as his spiritual mentor, but he continues to create steadily, without ever having a hit work, until one day, he becomes a popular artist who is admired around the world. His creative spirit is undiminished even in old age, but at the same time, the shadow of illness looms over him. Through the life of the old manga artist, the exhibition will explore Hokusai's achievements and the impact he had on the world. The performance will be followed by a commentary by the curator.

The concurrent collection exhibition will feature a special display of several ukiyo-e prints from the museum's collection, including one of Hokusai's most famous works, "Fugaku Sanjurokkei Kanagawaoki Namiura" ("Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, Kanagawa-oki Namiura"). The theater will provide a special opportunity to take a closer look at the art-themed play and the actual works of art. Please enjoy this special collaboration of theater and art.
