April 8, 2023 (the earth (historically, esp. as opposed to the heavens)) - May 21 (May 21, 2012)day (of the month))

This is the first exhibition to focus on the "Tsurugamae" series of portraits of historical figures by Japanese painter Kataoka Kyoko (1905-2008).
Kataoka was born in Sapporo, graduated from Women's Art College (now Joshibi University of Art and Design), and was selected for the first time in 1930 for the re-established Japan Art Institute Exhibition. In 1989, she was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit and lived to be 103 years old. With his intense colors, powerful brushwork, and bold figurative expression, he carved out a unique artistic field unrivaled in the postwar world of Japanese painting.
The "Face Structure" series began in 1966 at the age of 61 with a portrait of Shogun Ashikaga, and continued for 38 years until the age of 99. The faces of warlords, Buddhist monks, and ukiyoe artists are all depicted with Kataoka's broad, free-spirited sensibility in the modern age. This exhibition will explore the essence of Kataoka's art through approximately 40 works, including large paintings that were exhibited at the Reinvented Inten Exhibition and small preparatory sketches that reveal the creative process of the series.
