Collection Exhibition IIFeature: Expanding Imagination
main building
Saturday, August 27, 2022 - Sunday, December 18, 2022

Since its opening, Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art has introduced nationally and internationally renowned contemporary artists and collected their representative works for solo exhibitions. The current collection of approximately 7,800 works includes major works by internationally acclaimed artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Shusaku Arakawa, and Basquiat. The collection has also diversified over time to include paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs, and installations.
This exhibition presents a selection of creative works by artists who have developed their own unique expressions. You will have a memorable encounter with fascinating works that strongly stimulate your imagination.
Other works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Claude Monet will also be on display. Recently acquired works by Kazuo Okazaki, Makoto Saito, and Aki Inomata will also be on view. In addition, the seventh installment of "guest room," a series of invitational exhibitions of up-and-coming artists, will be held, featuring the latest work by Takeshi Tanaka.

Dates August 27 (Sat) - December 18 (Sun), 2022
Venue Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art, Collection Exhibition Room, Main Building
We feature Takeshi Tanaka (1982-), a native of Kitakyushu City who is active mainly in Tokyo and Kansai.
His world view is appealing because he expresses today's themes, such as problems and incidents in modern society, using traditional Japanese and Chinese painting techniques and a witty point of view.
New works to be created for this exhibition are also noteworthy.
