Collection Exhibition II Special Feature: Sculptor's Drawings - Clues to Creation
main building
Saturday, November 23, 2024 - Sunday, February 2, 2025

There are artists who are active as sculptors but also produce many two-dimensional works, including sketches, drawings, prints, and paintings. In the two-dimensional works drawn in the process of creating sculptures, we can see traces of the artist's conception and the transition of his thoughts. The drawings of sculptors, which are deeply related to the creation of three-dimensional works, have a different appeal from those of painters.
Special features will focus on drawings, prints, and other two-dimensional works by modern and contemporary sculptors from Japan and abroad, including Yoshitatsu Yanagihara, Tomonori Toyofuku, Hatsun Wakabayashi, Keiji Uematsu, Noe Aoki, and Atsuhiko Misawa, as well as Maillol and Marini, and will be introduced along with sculptural works from the collection. In addition, masterpieces by Degas and Renoir, as well as works by Shu Takahashi, Yayoi Kusama, Chimei Hamada, and others, who primarily create paintings and prints, but also sculpture and objects, will be exhibited.
