Exhibitions & Events

Exactly 30 years ago, in 1993, the Kitakyushu Municipal Museum of Art acquired Claude Monet's "Waterlilies, Reflections of Willows. Since then, this work has been loaned to important exhibitions in Japan and abroad, and has become a representative work in the museum's collection. In the same year, the 2nd International Steel Sculpture Symposium was held in Kitakyushu City, and Frank Stella, with the cooperation of Nippon Steel Corporation (now Nippon Steel Corporation), created "Yawata Works," which is also in the museum's collection. This exhibition looks back on the art of the period, introducing works from the "Permanent Summer Exhibition" in which "Water Lilies, Reflections of Willows" was exhibited for the first time, works from the special exhibition "The 100 Best Japanese Posters," the 2nd International Steel Sculpture Symposium and participating artists, and works created in 1993. In the eighth installment of "guest room," a series of invitations to contemporary artists within the Collection galleries, Thai artist Nawin Rawanchaikul will present new works created based on his research in the city, including Tangga Market.
