Exhibitions & Events

Tatsuhiko Yokoo (1928-2015) is a Japan- and Germany-based painter who has continued to create images that arise from within through meditation.
Born in Fukuoka City in 1928, Yokoo spent his childhood in Wakamatsu Ward, Kitakyushu City. He held a solo exhibition in Geneva, Switzerland, during his stay in Europe for less than a year. After returning to Japan, his fantastic style based on biblical and mythological themes attracted much attention, and he exhibited his works not only in Japan but also in Switzerland, the United States, Germany, Austria, and other countries in Europe and the United States.
In 1978, he joined the Rudolf Steiner Society and began Zen training at Sangun Zendo in Kamakura, experimenting with a fusion of Western mysticism and Eastern Zen thought. In 1993, he opened a studio in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture, and continued to travel back and forth between Japan and Germany until the end of his life.
This exhibition traces Yokoo's entire career, displaying paintings from his Surrealist-style works of the 1960s to his later abstract paintings, as well as video recordings of his public productions and sculptures of sacred images.
